Winston has abandoned the use for drugs and alcohol to achieve tranquility. Because Julia is in his life he has happiness and a strong will to survive. Winston’s stress has abandoned him and his varicose ulcer with it. Now that Winston has gained so much, there is more to lose, and Winston feels as though it is a matter of time before all is taken from him by the party. I believe, more than ever, Winston has cause to revolt against the party.
