Winston is dissatisfied with his existence under the rule of the Party. As a result, Winston often contemplates lashing out, in some way, (whether it be physical or emotional) against the party. Winston’s intellect and instinct help him to realize that to act outlandish means inevitable death. To remind himself of necessary self control, Winston often acknowledges his desire to bring about downfall to party, and dwells upon the consequences. This attempt usually stifles Winston’s inner rebellion for a short time, however each time Winston’s feeling returns; it seems to bring about even greater urgency.

Fornication (65)- voluntary sexual intercourse between two unmarried persons or two persons not married to each other.

Enema (65) - the injection of a fluid into the rectum to cause a bowel movement.
