This quote exhibits the false nature of the society in which Winston lives. Winston creates what is believed to be the truth out of a lies which he is responsible for creating. Winston’s discontent for society is justified by his career. Other people only need to believe his truth and think nothing of it. Winston is required to conjure up a lie, believe that lie to be true, and convince others that his lie is in fact the truth.
